Energy saving by optimizing the plant start up duration
Synopsis: Stepan is a leading global manufacturer of surfactants and polyester polyols. Stepan purchased Singapore plant in 2010 and subsequently installed fractionation capability. The Stepan Singapore plant on Jurong Island is a manufacturing plant to produce methyl ester and further break down the carbon chain in the Fractional process. Methyl ester chemistry has been a core technology for Stepan for over 30 years.
Stepan Singapore plant operates on campaign basis, during this project, the plant team optimised the pH controls in its upstream processes to reduce amount of impurities carried over to the buffer tanks, thereby allowing Stepan holding some quantities in the buffer tank at end of each campaign and then reduce start-up for the next campaign and improve specific energy consumption for overall start-up.
